1 Corinthians 13:4–8
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not
dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”As Valentine’s weekend arrives, many around us are celebrating love in its romantic form — through cards, flowers, dinners, and special moments. These are beautiful expressions of affection and commitment. But today, we pause to reflect on a love that is deeper, stronger, and everlasting — the love that comes from God.
For some, this weekend brings joy and celebration. For others, it may quietly stir feelings of loneliness, grief, or longing. Some may be walking through singleness, separation, loss, or simply a season of waiting. If that is you, please hear this clearly: you are not forgotten, and you are not unloved.
The love described in 1 Corinthians 13 is not limited to romance. It is the very nature of God. It is the love He pours out on every one of His children — married or single, young or old, surrounded by many or standing alone.
God’s love is patient with us.
It is kind toward us.
It keeps no record of our failures.
It does not withdraw when we struggle.
It does not fade when circumstances change.
When the world measures love by relationship status, God measures love by covenant. And His covenant with you is unbreakable.
Scripture reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. His love reaches into hospital rooms, quiet apartments, grieving hearts, and uncertain futures. It sits with us in silence. It strengthens us in weakness. It reassures us in moments when we question our worth.
This weekend, if you are celebrating with someone special, give thanks for that blessing. But also remember to reach out to someone who may need encouragement. A call, a message, an invitation, or a prayer can reflect Christ’s love in powerful ways.
And if you are feeling alone, know this: you are deeply valued in this church family. You matter. Your presence matters. Your gifts matter. Your life has purpose. You are seen not only by your church community, but by a Heavenly Father whose love is constant and personal.
The greatest love story ever told is not found in a Valentine’s card — it is found in the sacrifice of Christ. A love that chose the cross. A love that redeems. A love that restores. A love that never fails.
As a church, may we be a reflection of that love:
• Welcoming to the lonely
• Encouraging to the discouraged
• Present with the grieving
• Supportive of the single
• Strengthening to marriages
• Compassionate to all
Let this Valentine’s weekend remind us that love is not just something we receive — it is something we give. It is something we live. It is something we share.
Above all, may every heart be reminded:
You are loved with an everlasting love.
You are held by a faithful God.
You are never truly alone.
“Love never fails.”
May the peace and presence of God surround each of you this weekend — in celebration, in reflection, and in hope.
Prayer
God of perfect love, we thank you for showing us what true love looks like—patient, kind, humble, and enduring. Teach us to embody this love in every part of our lives. Where impatience rises, calm our spirits. Where unkindness tempts us, soften our hearts. Where pride or envy tries to take root, replace it with humility and gratitude. Help us to love in ways that reflects your heart: Amen
