Exodus 23:5

If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen under its load,

do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it.

I remember reading somewhere.

The duty of helping oneself in the highest sense involves the helping of one’s neighbours.

How often do we see someone struggling with something? We see them but do not think about it, it doesn’t concern us, so we just walk on past the person.

Is it because we don’t care for the person struggling, or maybe because we don’t know them?

I think it does not matter who they are, if anybody needs help, we should be willing to help in any way we can. Whether we know them or not or even if we do know them but do not like them, I think we should offer our services. After all, by serving others we are serving God.

We read in 1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

Everyone has a gift bestowed on us by Jesus through the Spirit. By being diligent in our reading of scripture and prayer, we may be able to hear the spirit explain what our talent is.

Prayer

Living Father, we are here today to give thanks for all the gifts You have entrusted to us. Help us to serve others as Jesus did, He did not ask anyone if they were worthy of His help, let us also have this willingness. We need to be able to recognise when our help is needed and to know how to help in each situation. Bless those who need the help to be able to accept the offer which can be difficult for some people. Amen
