Hebrews 10:35, 36 and 39

Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens.

Remember the great reward it brings you!  Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will.  Then you will receive all that he has promised.  But we are not like those who turn their backs on God and seal their fate.  We have faith that assures our salvation.

I guess we will all have put our trust on someone in this life and subsequently felt ‘let down’.  I’m thinking about that friend that promised to babysit then called at the last minute saying they couldn’t make it or the friend that agreed to meet you at a certain place at a certain time but didn’t turn up.  How many times have we taken time off from work to wait in for a pre-arranged appointment with a tradesman/estimator/sales advisor who failed to show?  Despite the reasons or excuses provided, trust has been lost and it is not a nice feeling.  It also makes it harder to put your trust in others for future occasions.

Conversely, there are those upon whom we can always rely on to do what they say they will do and that is a priceless resource to have.  We need to really appreciate those who fall into this category and never take them for granted.  What they do is invaluable, and we should recognise this and appreciate them accordingly.

Today’s passage assures us that we can be confident when we put our trust in God that he will not let us down or disappoint us.  We are also cautioned that we should never turn our back on him because that would only seal our fate and prevent us from the receiving the prize that is God’s promise for all who believe in him.  None of us know when this life will come to an end so we just need to patiently endure the difficulties life throws at us knowing that God will always be near us to help us through, and when the time comes, he will take us home to be with him, forever, in paradise.

Prayer - Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word of truth and the warnings and encouragement that it contains for our spiritual learning and Christian maturity. We pray that we may be faithful to You in thought, word, and deed, and thank You for Your many precious promises in Christ Jesus our Saviour.  We thank You that nothing can snatch us from Your hand, and nothing can separate us from Your love which is ours by faith in Christ. When our spirit fails or we find ourselves under severe trials and temptations, may we lean on You for the strength to come through victoriously. In Jesus' name, Amen
