Thought for 5 April 2023

Matthew 5:10

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

More Christians were martyred in the 20th century than in all other centuries combined.

* Every 5 minutes, a Christian is martyred for their faith.

* No religious group around the world is persecuted more than Christians.

Each month:    (1) 322 Christians are killed for their faith.

(2) 214 churches & Christian properties are destroyed.

(3) 772 forms of violence are committed against followers of Christ.

In the UK we are fortunate to be able to worship freely....at the moment. How long will that be the case? As things stand now more and more people are turning away from the faith and putting more pressure on those who want to stay faithful to the teachings of Christ.

There are even churches turning away from the truth of God’s word to follow the popular beliefs of those who would rather follow their own rules and laws. The rule of the evil one is coming closer to reality. If we are not careful, we could be caught up in the popular culture of self-belief that is affecting a large proportion of society. Schools, scientists, medical professionals, governments, sport, churches. There does not seem to be any group in society that is not caught up in this sickening trend.

We even hear people saying that certain passages in the bible are not meant as they are written. Genesis states that God made man and woman. He did not include the words ‘and one hundred other genders in between’.

We are told the laws in the book of Leviticus among other books and to those who say these rules do not apply to this generation go to 1 Timothy 1:9-11. There are certainly some laws meant for the Old Testament, but I think those which are mentioned in the New Testament are also for this generation.

We cannot pick and choose which bible passages are to our own liking and reject those ones that do not please us. God’s laws are not suggestions, they are the rules for life!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we come today with the prayer that You will be with us to help us to reject the common belief that the word of Your Father and ours is open to the changes of fallen man. Let us lean on Your strength, to be firm in our acceptance of the inspired word of God. Let us cling to Your teachings and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our feet in Your path. Cloth us in the armour of God so we may be able to deflect the attacks of Satan and his army and join with You in our eternal home. We ask these things in Your own beloved name. Amen
