What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims
to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? ..We have all heard about the tragic events
in Turkey and Syria and the needs of the people affected by these earthquakes.
It is not always possible to send money or travel there to help with rescue
efforts, but we all know how to pray, and our prayers reach our Father in
heaven, letting Him know that we care about the fate of the victims of this
disaster. It doesn’t matter how many other people
are praying, each individual prayer adds to the power of the intercession.
Prayer lets God know that we have faith in
His intercession, and we trust that He will hear our prayer and act to the
benefit of those prayed for.
Just as Jesus helped the paralysed man
when the man’s friends tore open a roof to lower the man to the floor where
Jesus was speaking (Mark 2: 3-6). Because of the faith of his friends Jesus
healed the man. Now no-one is asking us to break open a roof (there are enough
of those broken in the area affected) but we can show our faith the God can,
and will, help by putting the request into His hands and letting God deal with
it.
We may also want to include in our prayers
those others around the world who are facing their own emergencies, which are
getting more and more common. Extreme weather
conditions in places where they had never happened before. I wonder how many
are thinking about these happenings the same way I do.
God is in charge.
Prayer
Merciful Father, hear
our plea for the people of Turkey and Syria as they try to come to terms with
the catastrophe they have endured. Help them to overcome the sorrow they feel,
to look forward and to be able to make a different life without the homes and loved ones
they once had. You know, Lord God, where all the tragedies in the world are
happening and we ask Your presence in all those circumstances. Thank You for
Your help in all things. In Jesus name. Amen
