Thought for the Day - Monday 12 April 2021

Thought for Monday 12 April from Barbara Thomson Elder Wrangholm Kirk Monday 12th April   Genesis ch 9 vv 12-13 And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you  and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds , and it will be the sign of the covenant  between me and the earth. The seasons have turned, and we now have had flowers back in growth, the snowdrops, aconites and crocus have buoyed us up after winter, even though most have now gone over, we now have daffodils, tulips and bluebells to cheer us. All the colours of nature  About two or three times a week I try to go to Strathclyde Park for a walk, admittedly it consistently takes me ten minutes over our allotted one hour of exercise time. Being there early in the morning, the green of grass at one side, blue of water at another, the sun behind and grey clouds in front then, with luck, a glorious arch in front. A rainbow is a translucent, ephemeral arc of colour. All the colours of nature, a beautiful sight and a promise.    The rainbow is the visible sign of God’s promise not to wash his hands of His creation, wipe the slate clean and start again. A visible sign of his love for us, despite all our flaws. He has kept His side of the bargain so it is up to us to do our best to live in His love and try to also take care of His creation all around us.   Prayer   Dear lord, you have made all that we see around us, and have promised to never again destroy what is here. Help us to care for your creation and all living creatures on it, whether  human or not. Help us to treat it with love, and we pray for your love to strengthen us in all that we do. Amen
