Thought for the Day - Friday 5 February

Thought for the day Friday February 5th 2021 Psalm 33:4-5 (New Living Translation)  For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.   All I seem to have been hearing this week is politicians playing with statistics and attempting to outdo each other.  We’re in the middle of a pandemic that I don’t think could have been predicted, it’s been something new to deal with, we’ve all been affected by it, many lives have been lost and yet the constant political point scoring continues.  Each side claims that their figures are correct which makes me think either that one of them is not telling the truth or at the very least, figures are being manipulated in attempts to bring the credibility of their opposite number into question.   I used to think that when I picked up a newspaper or listened to the news on television or radio that all these things I was hearing actually happened.  Now it appears that certain news sources have political affiliations that can influence the ways of how news is reported.   Is it not therefore reassuring that the word of God holds true?  There are no lies in God’s word.  Sometimes scripture may make us feel uncomfortable but what we are reading is God’s truth.  It is also reassuring to hear in the second part of our reading that God is a God of love and that he loves that which is just and good.  It follows that God loves truth and anything that deviates or manipulates the truth is offensive and sinful in the eyes of God.   Prayer. Heavenly Father, Hear us this day as we pray for more transparency and honesty in our society.  Let us pray that mankind will look to you once again for guidance in how we should all live our lives and treat our fellow brothers and sisters.  Amen
