Thought forvthe Ssy - Wednesday 4 November
Thought for the Day – Wednesday 4th November
‘By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.’ (Genesis 2: 2)
We do give ourselves a lot of angst at times don’t we?
We can spend so much of our lives just worrying about this, that and the other. We worry about yesterday and we worry about tomorrow, yet it is true to say that one is buried and gone and the other is yet unborn!
Actually when you think about it, I suppose we could even say that both are beyond our control – so why worry over them – for in our hearts we genuinely know that God as the psalmist says in Psalm 46: 1 is ‘our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.’
So really it is not our task to worry over things – worry just takes up too much headspace - or to try and decipher exactly how all the pieces of our lives fit together or what each piece means. Rather our task is simply to remain faithful to our ever-present God and be obedient to God for he is the one who holds all our lives in his hands and who knows all the mysteries of life.
So, if worry overwhelms you at any time – give yourself permission to just rest – after all God did after all his work.
And, if it is the thought of all the things you have to do or get done which is worrying you at any time then why not try and just divide one job into several little jobs, after all God took six days to create the universe so why should we try to be any better than God!
Prayer
Loving God,
Sometimes we become so preoccupied with all our worries. We worry about our children and families. We worry about our personal finances. We worry about all we have to do. We worry about how well we will perform our duties. We worry about our health. We worry about our world. We worry and we worry….
Gracious Lord,
Teach us to rest as you rested and empty us of these worries that we may be filled with a sense of your presence, with the touch of your spirit, with new energy, with your power, with trust and faith. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
