Thought for the Day - Thursday 5 November
Thought for the Day – Thursday 5th November ‘Because of the Lord’s great love we
are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.’ (Lamentations 3: 22-23) It seems that everywhere
you go now there are appearing charging points for electric cars, they are
cropping up here there and everywhere and where once there used to be loads of
car parking spaces now they are reducing in number due to bays being set aside
for charging points. Even this morning I was surprised to find that Daldowie
Crematorium has now added several charging bays to their car parks. A sign of
the future where we are all being guided towards electric cars which are better
for our environment and our planet. It got me thinking though – without a
frequent recharge these cars can’t go very far and there needs to be constant
recharging going on and readily available recharging points or the electric car
just won’t work as it should. Perhaps then we are very similar to those electric
cars for we need to be frequently recharging, taking time each day to recharge
‘our batteries’ and make sure we are ready for whatever the day might hold. We
may even need to recharge several times in a day depending on what we are doing!
Of course, we don’t plug ourselves in to the electric power to recharge
ourselves – that would not be a sensible thing to do and I do not advocate such
action! However, we do need to ‘plug ourselves in’ to the source of our power –
God – and take time to recharge with him. Praying, reading, reflecting on his
word, counting our blessings, reminding ourselves of his unfailing love and
mercy for us which is indeed new every morning – as sure as the very sunrise.
Time spent recharging with God is never wasted time and such is his faithfulness
that he can refresh and recharge us at any time of the day or night. An added
bonus for us though, unlike those electric cars, is that plugging in to our
recharging point costs us nothing but time yet, the benefit will far outweigh
the cost. Prayer Loving God, Great is your faithfulness to us! May we be as
faithful to you. Help us to turn to you when we need to recharge ourselves and
help us to remember that you are an ever-present God and so we may turn to you
at any time of the day or night. Be our source of power Lord, enabling and
guiding our daily living. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
