Thought for the Day - Tuesday 27 October

Thought for the Day – Tuesday 27th October ‘Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!’ (Psalm 27: 14) ‘….those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.’ (Isaiah 40: 31) So how are we going to learn to love ourselves a little more today? Well, by waiting on the Lord and looking within us for the strength he is always willing to give! So, when you find yourself endlessly rushing around or your mind is full of anxiety over all sorts of things just take time to stop. This gives you a little space to think about why you are rushing around and why you are feeling anxious. Often in that one moment of stopping and reflecting on how you feel you can understand the reasons why you have been rushing around and why you have those anxious thoughts. Understanding those reasons can then help you understand a little more about yourself – about how you are made, how you are affected by the world around you, more about who you are and how God made you to be. Remember we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind and if that mind is stress filled then it will always make it harder to hear just exactly what God is saying to us at any given time. So, just stop, wait in his presence and when the time is right God will give you clear guidance and he will renew your strength. Be kind to yourself today and take time to listen for God speaking to you – as he will in all sorts of ways – wait for the Lord and learn to love yourself a little more! Prayer Loving God, You lift us up to the heights, each day on wings like eagles you enable us to soar with the possibilities both within our own souls and within this world which needs so much care. We need your strength Lord, to not grow weary as we continue to hope for new life. We long to run and not grow faint as we challenge the injustices of our world and as we work for your compassion and wholeness for all people, and all creatures, and the very earth. Lord, as we seek to understand how to love ourselves, as we are, a little more, help us to wait for you in our lives and listen for you voice speaking to our hearts, souls and minds. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
