Thought
for the Day – Thursday 13th August
‘Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out one after another, calling
each by its name. And he counts them to
see that none are lost or have strayed away.’
‘’ (Isaiah 40: v26)
Surely everyone of us at some point have stared up at the
sky on a dark clear night and asked ourselves the question ‘why would the God
that created all this not just bother about me, but actually love me?’
I have heard our Creator God be referred to as ‘nature’s
artist’ and, not without good reason with the amazing variety of landscapes,
climates, plants, animals, fish and birds created with design skills that we
cannot even begin to imagine. Just
consider for a moment, the intricacy of the human body or, indeed, the body of
any living creature of which it seems, there is an almost infinite variety. It is beyond the comprehension of every
mortal.
The heavens and the earth are a continual reminder of God’s
glory for all those who seek the truth and yet, unbelief still abounds today similarly
as it did in the time of Isaiah.
Prayers
Loving God, we thank you for the magnificence of every aspect of your creation from
the greatest to the least in the heavens and in this world in which we live. Open our eyes that we may even have a faint
appreciation of what was involved. We
thank you for being our God, greater and glorious beyond our understanding and
yet, accessible through the Son and the Holy Spirit via prayer. Amen.
