Thought for Wednesday 29 May 2024

2 Timothy 3: 1-5

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents,

ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

Harold Camping made multiple false predictions of the return of Christ. He would have been in trouble if he had lived during Old Testament times. Among the most prolific modern predictors of end times, Harold Camping publicly predicted the end of the world as many as 12 times based on his interpretations of biblical numerology. In 1992, he published a book ominously titled “1994?”, which predicted the end of the world sometime around that year. His most high-profile prediction was for May 21, 2011, calculated to be exactly 7,000 years after the Biblical flood. When that date passed without incident, he adjusted his math and pushed back the end of the world to October 21, 2011.          - unknown

Nobody on earth knows the day or hour of Christ’s return. Would it make a difference if we did? I don’t think so! People would still believe there was plenty of time to make the essential changes we all need to make in our lives. If we have not already made those changes, some people never will.

We all need to pray for God to guide us in His way, the way Jesus taught when He walked among men. Too many people are like those described in 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 above, and we must pray that we can stay strong in the face of the evil that is all around us.  Matthew warns us in chapter 42-44,

“Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.  But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.  So, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Do we expect Him? I pray thar we are all ready for Him at whatever time God chooses. Make no mistake, we are in the end times and although we do not know how long these times will last, we must be prepared.

Prayer

Father of all time and space, we owe all we are to You, we acknowledge our sins before You and ask Your forgiveness for all the times we have caused You pain and hurt. Help us, Father, to be prepared for that great and glorious day when our Saviour, Jesus Christ returns to take us home. Bless us also, to stay confirmed in our faith and not to be swayed by the wickedness that surrounds us. Especially as it gets worse until that day. Bless all those who are caught up in the chaos and violence around the world, protect the innocent so that they will not feel Your wrath and help us all to prepare for eternal life. Thank You Father for all You have done and do for us always. In Jesus mighty name, amen
