Thought for Wednesday 31 May 2023

Revelation 3:15-17 NIVUK

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.

I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.” But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Whatever people think of you, do what you believe to be right. Be indifferent to whether they censure you or praise you, don’t let it matter. If you believe you are right and are sure that God agrees, do not be put off. The bible is the place to look for guidance on all these things.

There are so many people these days who see things happening which they know are wrong, but they are afraid to speak out about them, they don’t want anyone to be thinking they are trying to look better than they really are.

At the moment there are those who are trying to change the wording of the bible, but it says in

Revelation 22:18-19

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

It doesn’t matter who, or what we are, when we see this kind of thing, we must be sure what the bible actually says and speak accordingly. In the complex we have many conversations about this very thing among others. The issue of gender has had to be put aside; everyone agrees with each other, but it causes a lot of anger in some, so the subject is taboo. Now we just argue about who is going to buy me scones (to those who just gasped, I’m joking).

Prayer

Mighty Father, urge us to go to your word, to read the truth, that what we are told by other people is not truth. Not everyone can be trusted to speak honestly, they would rather teach us their words and try to convince us they are right. Give us the wisdom to recognise their lies and be able to put them right about Your truth. Lord Jesus, during Your ministry You taught truth and expect us to follow these teachings. Help us to live by the truth all our days, let our lives be a living testament to the truth of scripture and the word of the living God. Assist us to allow the Spirit to do his work in us. Amen
