Thought for 19 April

Galatians 1:6-7

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting

the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel – which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ

Preacher and Bible commentator, John Stott, said in his exposition of Paul's letter to the Galatians:

"To tamper with the gospel is to trouble the church... Indeed, the church's greatest troublemakers (now as then) are not those outside who oppose, ridicule and persecute it, but those inside who try to change the gospel... Conversely, the only way to be a good churchman is to be a good gospel-man. The best way to serve the church is to believe and to preach the gospel."

There are so many so-called Christians today who are trying to convince us that we are mistaken in the way we interpret the bible, especially the gospels. According to them Jesus did not really perform the miracles witnessed and experienced by many during His ministry. In fact, the miracles described in the gospels were only some of those witnessed. In John’s gospel ch 20: 30, 31 he explains the purpose of his gospel,

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

The gospels are the true account of the birth, life, death and glorious resurrection of Jesus.

It does not matter how often I read the first four books of the New Testament, my heart is filled with joy. To be reminded again and again of exactly what our Saviour did for us should never fail to lift our hearts to praise His name.

Satan is moving in the world now and we must be on our guard against the false teachers and preachers he is sending out to spread his lies. So many once faithful Christians doing the work of the father of lies.

Be dressed in the full armour of God at all times.

Prayer

Sovereign Lord, we come to You today in all humility, knowing that You are our heavenly Father who sees and knows our inmost hearts. You know how weak we are in our own strength, so we ask You to walk with us sharing Your mighty power with us so that we may be able to withstand the onslaught that is building as Satan uses his evil power to ensnare the unwary and weak. We come to You through Your holy Spirit in Jesus blessed name, amen.
