“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
A.W. Tozer said, "We are called
to an everlasting preoccupation with God." God is worthy of our worship. One of the ways that you can be reasonably assured of your salvation is your desire to worship. Knowing the true God and recognizing idols that would take His rightful place are marks of a true Christian. As my Wrangholm family knows, I haven’t
managed to attend many services this year. However, I am starting to think
there is a reason for this. Three weeks ago, one of my friends in here asked me
if I would mind her coming to join me to watch Claremont online service which I
watch when I can’t get to Wrangholm. Of course, I said she should come down.
She told me she has not been to church in
many years, but she knows I watch this service when I’m not able to go out. She
just wondered if she could watch with me to see how she would feel about it.
Anyway, we watched that Sunday and she
didn’t say a word during the time it was on. She did hum along with the music
at times though. At the end of the service, she thanked me and went on her way.
During the week this lady appeared at my door and asked if she could speak to
me about what we had watched.
We had a good talk and I answered most of
her questions about church, she doesn’t feel ready to go to services but asked
if she could join me again. She was brought up not attending any church but
feels now that she could be ‘missing something’. I did explain about fellowship
but she’s not ready to take that step.
I read somewhere (can't remember where) A guy called Michael
Mccartney spoke about worship, he said,
"True worship is God-centered
worship. People tend to get caught up in where they should worship, what music
they should sing in worship, and how their worship looks to other people.
Focusing on these things misses the point.
Jesus tells us that true worshipers
will worship God in spirit and in truth. This means we worship from the heart
and the way God has designed. Worship can include praying, reading God's Word
with an open heart, singing, playing and instrument, participating in
communion, and serving others. It is not limited to one act but is done
properly when the heart and attitude of the person are in the right place.
It's also important to know that
worship is reserved only for God. The truth is we all worship something and
this is why one of the Ten Commandments tell us to worship God alone -- because
it is essential in our relationship with the Lord."
The result is as long as she wants to join
me, I will welcome her company, and there is another woman asking questions so
as far as I’m concerned, the more the merrier. They still don’t want to talk to
other tenants about coming but this is a start and as they start to get more
comfortable who knows where it may lead.
Please pray for these two women to find
the Lord Jesus, that nobody rocks the boat, so to speak. You know what some
people are like.
I am sure we all appreciate the freedom we
have to worship as often as we want, wherever we want without police or
government interference. However, there are always those who question why we
want to.
Prayer
Almighty Father thank you for the people
who are still interested in knowing You, despite others who are turning away.
If we can help some of them to find their place in Your family, please give us
the wisdom we need to encourage them without
overwhelming them. If we find ourselves at a loss with questions help us to
find the answers for them. In Jesus name, amen.
