Thought for Wednesday, 19 October

Romans 8: 23-25

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

According to Believer's Bible Commentary, our hope is for deliverance from the presence of sin and all its baneful results. It is based on the promise of God and is therefore as certain as if we had already received it. So we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

We can absolutely hold onto this hope because it is the promise of God Himself and He is not in the business of making false promises, that’s a human fault. People do not have the ability to predict what the circumstances will be at any given time, making promises a bit hit or miss.

We live our lives in the belief that we will be adopted as children of God in our redeemed bodies. Not for us a life of wishing in vain, we live with the knowledge of the promise of our heavenly Father that in the fullness of time we will be with Him and with His son Jesus Christ.

This is our reward in heaven, which we can claim through our belief that Jesus is the Son of God, who died for our salvation. Never lose that hope because Jesus gave His earthly life that we would have eternal life.

Our hope is in the word of Almighty God who has never let us down.

Prayer

Mighty God, you provide for us throughout our lives on earth and You promise that You will still provide for us when our earthly lives end. We lift our voices in grateful thanks for all we have through Your concern for us. Help us to spread the news of Your promises and of Your son Jesus and to share Your great bounty with others not so fortunate, in Jesus wonderful name. Amen
