Thought for Monday 31 October

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 NIV

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

When loved ones die we don’t lose them. We know where they are, they are waiting for Judgement Day when they will stand with us to be judged on how we have served God in this life.

Not for us the worry of dying, we are prepared…aren’t we. We have given our lives over to God, to be His spokesmen/women, telling the folks that we meet about God’s amazing love which necessitated putting His son on a cross to be a sacrifice for our sins, once and for all time.

Experts say that 3 people die every second. If this fact is true, then 180 people die every minute, 10,800 people die every hour, 259,200 people die every day, and 94,608,000 people die every year. Of the six billion people on earth today, experts also say that 2/3 of them have never heard the Gospel one time. If these percentages hold true, then 63, 103,536 people die every year without ever hearing the Gospel.    (Joseph Marshall).

Before Jesus ascended into heaven He gave His disciples the Great Commission, in Matthew 28 verses 19,20 it says,

“go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus didn’t just leave the disciples to get on with it, He told them He would be with them. Christ will be with us too as we share our faith with those who don’t know our Saviour.

When we reach the Judgement Seat of Christ will we be able to say we served the Father by living in the way Jesus taught and by spreading the Good News of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, so that we can face the Judgement Seat knowing that with God’s help, we did all we could for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us to live knowing that we are doing all we can to carry on the work of Your disciples. Too many people are not hearing about You, help us to share your word wherever we can. Too many also are losing faith, steeped in the culture of today which is self-centred and voracious. Evil is almost a way of life and is spreading too swiftly among populations and nations. Wars, abuse and violence are daily headlines in newspapers, people are getting immune to them. Lord Jesus, please help us to do what we can where we can. We come to You in Your own wonderful name, amen.
