Thought for Monday 14 February 2022

Psalm 106: 1

Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever.

St Valentine’s Day. I wonder how many cards were sent, professing undying love to a ‘significant other’ and how many people sent more than one. Human love is a fragile emotion, so often turning to hate, almost in a heartbeat. This can be seen in the divorce statistics, and that only for those who even bother with a marriage ceremony. So many partnerships fail at the first hurdle, compromise seems like a foreign word to them and even the words ‘I love you’ are sometimes used to manipulate.

Even children are suffering, so many don’t know what love is because it has never been shown to them. They have never been introduced to the source of love.

We have been fortunate that we were taught love by the Master Himself. We know His love will never fail or diminish. He is there ready to help us whenever we ask.

We are told in Romans 8:39,

neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

He has known us, and loved us, since the beginning of time, warts and all.

I wonder also how many of us professed our undying love for our Creator and Redeemer this morning. Of course, God does know we love Him but He deserves this love to be acknowledged by us. I admit it wasn’t in my morning prayer, I don’t think I tell God often enough either. Yet, His is the Love that never fails us. He proved that on a Roman cross.

God loves us beyond life and into eternity, should we not be shouting that from the rooftops? Not just on St Valentines Day but every day!

To God be the glory!

Prayer

Loving and faithful Father, we do acknowledge our love for You and apologise for not doing this more often. We love because You loved first, showing us how to love. Help us to spread Your love to everyone we interact with, so that they also may know what it is to be loved. Amen.
