Thought for the Day - Friday 6 August
Psalm 119 v160 (New Living Translation)
All your words are true; all your just laws will last forever.
I believe I’ve said before that I take whatever verse or verses from the bible as they are shown on the website ‘bible gateway’. I normally read what goes before and what comes after the daily extract from scripture and that provides the ‘bones’ of my thoughts for the day.
Today I was presented with a very short reading that comes from a chapter in the bible that has no less than 176 verses so I was struggling where to go with this one.
We can achieve nothing on our saviour’s behalf without first asking him for help and guidance as to how best we can approach any challenge that is set before us. Today’s verse assures us that although the words in our bibles were written a long time ago, the content is as relevant today as when it was first written and the guidelines as to how we should interact with God and man are equally relevant. The words in scripture were true all those years ago and they are equally true today and tomorrow.

We have information thrown at us every day and all day through tv, magazines and social media. I believe we can all recognise that in many of these information channels, we are simply being told what certain influential media people wish us to believe.
I used to have a neighbour who watched CNN (Cable News Network) every day and he would tell me that for certain current newsworthy items, their account was radically different from what we were being told via the domestic news channels.
On many occasions, the differences in the nature of their reporting meant that one or the other was being very flexible with the truth.
I’m content with today’s thought in the respect that reiterating everything we read in scripture is true and always will be and the guidance as to how we live our lives is still perfect and always will be, are two good thoughts well worth having.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, We thank you for your truth and guidance which is eternal. We thank you for the sunshine we have all been enjoying and thank you for the heavy rain today, both Godly gifts that make our country so green and fertile. We would pray for those people in other parts of the world that may feel they have too much of one of these gifts and not enough of the other. Help us be grateful for what we have in all aspects of our lives. Amen
