Thought for Wednesday 9 June Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. This passage made me think about school days. The class was in for geography and before the teacher came in we heard a noise outside. One of us (not me!) decided to climb onto the window sill to investigate. The school was a big sandstone building with huge windows and blackout curtains. Anyway, before she had a chance to come back down the teacher came in and she had to spend the entire time hiding behind the curtain. When the register was called she answered from the curtain. She also answered questions without any problem. As soon as the bell rang the teacher left and the room erupted. She was a hero for having succeeded in hiding from him for the whole lesson, but she was shaking like a leaf. Betty was fortunate that the teacher didn’t catch on because he wasn’t exactly a tolerant guy. We can see from this bible passage in Hebrews that God sees everything we do, no chance of hiding from Him. None of us can! He sees everything we do, even if we try to do it ‘behind a curtain’ In Jeremiah 16:17  we see God says, “My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes”. In fact, in Jeremiah God was quite severe with those who were doing wrong and He was going to teach them that they could never hide from God. Even now, some people think they can’t be seen when they are doing things they shouldn’t, or they don’t even give a thought to God.  I sometimes wonder how some people can live without fearing God’s judgement when that day comes. Of course, if they don’t believe in God’s existence why would they care? Who was it that said, ‘I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live as if there isn't and to die to find out that there is’? I’m not entirely sure that this is the best quote because belief cannot be forced. Prayer All seeing God, nothing we do can be kept secret from You. We cannot even hide our thoughts from you so how could we hope to hide our sins? You not only see our wrongdoings though, You also see our struggle with the temptations we face and how we deal with them by asking for Your help through prayer. Please help us to stay strong in faith and confidence in You. Amen.
