Thought for the Day - Monday 8 March
Thought for Monday 8 March 2021
Matthew 27:43
He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, “I am the Son of God.”’
I was reading this passage this morning while sitting in the car, it made me think of Easter approaching.
Jesus was on the cross and the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him saying ‘He saved others, but he can’t save himself!
He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him’.
Of course Jesus trusted His Father but what those people did not understand was that trust was not just about God saving Jesus from the cross. This trust was about Jesus knowing that God wouldn’t be making him suffer for no reason.
Jesus knew that the only way you and I could be reconciled to God was through sacrifice. We are all guilty of too many sins for anything less to suffice. He was an absolutely willing participant in this plan. He also knew that He would rise on the third day after His death. Make no mistake, He did die! Many people still don’t believe that, even today.
Perhaps they are too afraid to admit it because this would make them complicit in His death. We all are! That is why we should be thanking Him for our lives, eternal life.
We can’t even imagine the depth of His love for us. That He would be willing to leave the glory of heaven to grow up as a human child, with all that was entailed in that at that time. To live without committing any sin just to die a savage death on a cross.
Prayer
Lord Jesus
Thank you for your mercy to us. No one forced you to take our sins upon yourself, You accepted this without a second thought, so that we would be worthy to be called children of God. We are sorry that we are still struggling with sin and are grateful that we can be forgiven, by the Grace of Your blood. Amen.
