Thought for the Day - Tuesday 10 November
Thought for the Day Tuesday 10th November
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1: 8)
…………………………….
When Caryl said she was due holidays she asked Stewart, John and I to cover for her. We are sharing the services and Stewart and I are putting up the facebook ‘Daily Thoughts’.
All was going well until today. Stewart and I decided to swap weeks for the thought then John sent me what he had sorted out for the service on 15th. I still have my part to finish off so between this thought and the part for the service, I was sorted.
Or so I thought (no pun intended), John emailed and reminded me that we each had a prayer to say in this Sunday’s service. I had no idea about what he was talking about. It seems I agreed to it without even reading the email. You may be surprised to know that you cannot follow instructions without reading them first, you will be totally lost as to what you should be doing. Or, like me, you won’t even know you need to do anything.
A cup of coffee was in order. While drinking it I thought about how similar this was to reading scripture, if we don’t read our Bible, we won’t know what is expected of us. It’s all explained in the Bible, how to live, how to act and react with other people. It’s all set down for us in The Bible.
This reminded me of a post on Facebook where a wee boy proudly told his daddy that he knew what the Bible stood for. When his daddy asked the wee boy said
Basic
Instructions
Before
Leaving
Earth
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Prayer
Lord God,
You inspired so many people to record your words, please now inspire us to read those words as faithfully as they were written.
We will never be able to know you without reading about how you created us and love us to death. Even death on the cross, which was for all people, not just a selected few.
Lord, if only we could spend as much time on reading your word as we do on that ‘bestseller’ we bought at the weekend. After all, The Bible is the bestseller of all time. We would still have the pandemic, but people might be more tolerant towards each other. Let us take a few minutes each day to ‘read the instructions’. Amen
