Thought
for the Day – Sunday 16th August
But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness
will rise with healing in its wings. And
you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.’
(Malachi 4:
v2)
Well this is my
last contribution, Caryl will be back with you tomorrow and I’m sure we all
wish her well and hope she has had an enjoyable holiday and a good rest. I can tell you honestly, I will be especially
glad to see her back.
Thanks for putting
up with my offerings for the last couple of weeks and if even one of you have
taken something meaningful from any of them, it will have made any efforts on
my part worthwhile. Two weeks ago, I
pictured 14 blank pages of A4 paper staring me in the face and was concerned,
to put it mildly, as to how I was going to fill them. As the days progressed, the problem became how
to restrict each day to one page. There
truly is a wealth of material in our bibles and I commend it to you whether
happy or sad as a way to let God speak to you.
For the past few
days, May and I have been visiting Arran and it is the first time for both of
us. The weather has been fantastic, and
we have truly seen this beautiful island at its best. I have heard it said it is like Scotland in
miniature but, so far, we haven’t found Arran’s version of Castlemilk, Drumchapel
or Easterhouse (no offence Derek Hughes if you ever read this!). Two days ago we witnessed an otter having
it’s breakfast on top of a partially submerged rock and yesterday we saw half a
dozen seals, some swimming and some basking on the rocks. On the day we arrived, I went into the sea
for a paddle but only managed up to my knees because it was just a bit on the
cool side. We’ve had a wonderful time
here and I would recommend visiting it if you’ve never been.
I think that no
matter where you go in this little country of ours, you will find beauty, no
matter the weather, if you look for it. The
sunshine that we’ve been blessed with just makes it that bit easier to find and
it lifts the spirit.
Today’s passage
from scripture reminds us that fearing, by respecting and at the same time,
loving God, ‘the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in its wings’ with
more beauty and more lifting of the spirit that we can ever imagine.
We thank you for the
Sunshine and the rain which provides all we need to physically survive and we
thank you that you came to this world to live your life as an example to men,
women and children for all time. We
thank you that you are a loving and forgiving God, were it not so, life would
be meaningless. Be with us Lord and all
whom we love and may all praise and glory be yours, this day and forever. Amen.
