Thought for the Day – Friday 17th July
‘Worship the Lord in the beauty
of holiness;
bow down before him, his glory
proclaim;
gold of obedience and incense of
lowliness
bring, and adore him; the Lord is
his name!’ (CH4 201)
Friday again!
How the weeks roll by!
I seem to have been spending an inordinate amount of time each day on
documents and updates of those documents around the re-opening of churches and
the procedures we will need to have in place to keep Covid-19 at bay and the consequences
for all of us of ignoring such procedures!
On reading them all in great depth and detail though, it strikes me
that for all the precise detail within them, that nowhere does it really take
account of the fact that some people may NOT wish return to church just yet –
they may not feel confident enough in those safety features we have to put in
place to wish to return; or indeed of the fact that perhaps having got so out
of the habit of physically coming to church or so used to the habit of worshipping
in a virtual way that some people may never return!
Obviously this is something I am also spending a lot of time reflecting
upon!
However, in the meantime I came across this little rhyme which is just
perfect for our ‘Friday Fun Time!’
Hopefully though it won’t be reflected in real life as we come out of
Lockdown – even though we will be limited in our numbers who can attend!
Ten little Christians standing in a line,
One disliked the preacher, then there were nine.
Nine little Christians stayed up very late,
One overslept on Sunday and then there were eight.
Eight little Christians on their way to heaven,
One took the low road and then there were seven.
Seven little Christians chirping like chicks,
One disliked the music, then there were six.
Six little Christians very much alive,
Bit one lost their interest and then there were five.
Five little Christians pulling for heaven’s shore,
But one stopped to take a rest, and then there were four.
Four little Christians each busy as a bee,
One got their feelings hurt, and then there were three.
Three little Christians knew not what to do,
One joined the sports club, and then there were two.
Two little Christians, our rhyme is nearly done,
Differed with each other, then there were none! (Anon)
Prayer
Loving Lord,
As a worshipping community we share one faith, have one calling, are of
one soul and one mind; have one God and Father, are filled with one Spirit, are
baptized with one baptism, eat of one bread and drink of one cup; we confess
one name, are obedient to one Lord, work for one cause, and share one hope. In
our worship and prayer life Lord, may we then strive to know you more, take
every opportunity to pray together and for each other, willingly serve you and
each other and delight in our worship of you. We ask these things in name. Amen
Friday Fun Time:
Here are your questions and challenges for today!
1. What’s your favourite ‘Fair Friday’ memory?
2. What’s your favourite British holiday resort and why?
3. Share five childhood memories of family holidays or ‘Day’s Out’.
4. Walking along the promenade what would you choose to eat as your
snack of choice – fish and
chips, ice cream, hot
doughnuts, cockles and whelks, (yugh!), hot dog etc.
5. What did
you play at when on the beach – e.g. sandcastles, making channels down to the
sea,
burying your parents in the sand?
