Thought for Today

Thought for the Day - Monday 13th April

Today’s reading is Psalm 118: 1-29 here is the first part of that Psalm:

Psalm 118: 1-6a

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever!

2 Let Israel say,
    “His steadfast
love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”

5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.
6 With the Lord on my side I do not fear.

Here we are in the midst of this time of coronavirus, this time of ‘Staying at Home, Protecting our NHS and Saving Lives’. I don’t know about you but even staying at home still brings with it fears and anxieties – such as, are we safe when we are out and about exercising or shopping, are we managing to keep our distance from others, and perhaps most worrying are our loved ones safe and well and for me, are my ‘flock’ safe and well and managing to cope with all the restrictions on their lives.

When all these fears and anxieties rise to the surface no matter how strong our faith sometimes we can lose faith, our faith can sometimes take a wee bit of a dip as we wonder where God is in all of this time of uncertainty, as well as if we are ever going to get through this time.

Our reading today of Psalm 118 reminds us that God is in the midst of all we are experiencing at this time, that his steadfast love never fails no matter what we are facing; that day in and day out God is with us and when we call on the Lord out of our distress he will answer us.

So when you are fearful or anxious call out to the Lord from your distress, pray to him and ask him to calm your fears and bring you inner peace for remember with the Lord on your side you have nothing to fear.

Prayer

Loving God,
We thank you that we are never alone, that you are with us always, that we can call on you at any time of the night or day to calm our fears. We thank you for your steadfast love and for your faithfulness to us. May we know that love and presence in our lives today and always. A
