John 19:36

These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”

Bible prophecy is a mystery to most people, me included, but it does fascinate me. Every time I read one of the prophets, I marvel at how many of them have already been fulfilled. However, there are those who don’t believe in them. Mostly the ones about our Saviour are set aside, with some saying that Jesus would be familiar with what the prophecies say, so He could make His life match what was expected of the Messiah.

That could have been true, it had possibly been used in the past by those who claimed that title before Jesus was born. However, as I read today’s reading something caught my attention, I have obviously read it before, but I had to pause and read it again, proof positive for me. I do not mean that I ever had any doubts, but perhaps an argument to use with those who have some problem with it.

Anyone with knowledge that Jesus undoubtedly had could have made some people think they were genuine by giving them false credentials. Nonetheless, nobody could have told the Romans not to break any of Jesus bones, they would have been laughed out of the country.

How did it come about that even after the horrifying scourging, which tore flesh from bone, none of His precious bones was damaged. Even when the nails were hammered into His wrists and feet, the bones were not damaged.

Praise God for His might and power and for the promises He has given us, that we can trust, by knowing how many times the word of God has shown us the truth of His prophecies that have been fulfilled up to now. We can also believe what we have read about the ‘End Times’. As it says in,

Matthew 24: 3-8

Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives. There the disciples came to him in private. “Tell us,” they said. “When will this happen? And what will be the sign of your coming? What will be the sign of the end?”

Jesus answered, “Keep watch! Be careful that no one fools you. Many will come in my name. They will claim, ‘I am the Messiah!’ They will fool many people. You will hear about wars. You will also hear people talking about future wars. Don’t be alarmed. Those things must happen. But the end still isn’t here. Nation will fight against nation. Kingdom will fight against kingdom. People will go hungry. There will be earthquakes in many places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in declaring the coming of Your Son through the prophets of old. Scripture tells us time after time about Your grace and mercy and so we know that we can trust in Your word. Thank You for the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ to suffer for our sins, and for when You allowed Jesus to tell us something about the end of the age. Please give us wisdom to act according to Your word. Bless all those places where wars and violence exist now and protect the innocent in all these areas and countries. We ask these things in Jesus’ wonderful name, amen.
